PAN President and CEO Marc L. Aronson has been appointed by Gov. Tom Corbett to serve on Pennsylvania’s new Electronic Recording Commission. The 13-member Commission is charged with administering the Uniform Real Property Electronic Recording Act (URPERA) signed into law by the governor on July 5, 2012.
URPERA establishes the ability of a local recorder of deeds to accept and otherwise process electronic documents and signatures for recording. The act recognizes that, for electronic recording to become accepted universally, there must be an orderly conversion of every recording office in the United States.
The Commission will oversee the process of building and implementing standards for recorders of deeds to follow in converting to electronic recording.
The Electronic Recording Commission is comprised of eight county recorders of deeds appointed by the leadership of the Senate and House of Representatives. Five members were appointed by the governor from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, the Department of State, the Pennsylvania Association of Notaries, the Pennsylvania Land Title Association and the Pennsylvania Bankers Association.
Members of the Commission will serve three-year terms of office.
